steven la Brasca, director- producer, principal...

steven  laBrasca

Fortes: Fresh/hip, intriguing people, storytelling, dramatic, light humor, green-screen and graphic composite.

As an award winning media professional and filmmaker with over 20 years of overall industry experience, Steven La Brasca is committed to excellence. Whether jumping off with a simple, abstract idea or a detailed set of storyboards, his objective is clearly defined—consistently deliver uniquely indelible, dynamic, and dramatic moving imagery.

Steven’s directorial focus and style is best described as clear and classic storytelling through interesting and intriguing people—and when complimentary, exciting visual effects. He offers the kind of inspired and passionate creative skills that bring ideas to life—giving them heart, soul and definition. As a producer, Steven also brings to the table years of insight and leadership in the areas of management, scheduling and budgeting—both locally in Chicago and in other major markets such as Los Angeles, New York and Toronto.

Originally from Chicago, Steven's career represents a solid foundation of fundamentals, education and experience encompassing nearly all aspects of the production process. For example, before becoming a Director/Producer, he was calling the shots from behind the lens as a successful lighting cameraman and Director of Photography (DP). He was also CMX-certified as a 3400 computer editor and Cinema Products-certified as a Steadicam
(R) operator (for a brief time, he also eventually helped teach Steadicam(R) classes at Fletcher Chicago workshops).

On a mission from the beginning and after attending Northern Illinois University, Steven hit the road running—first living and working on the road for a year (from San Francisco to Los Angeles) covering sports with a mobile television truck. From there and after returning to Chicago, several full-time positions at some Chicago-based production facilities & continued freelance work, all contributed to enhancing his root system in TV/Film production.

For the large part of his career and continuing to date, Steven proudly has earned his living as an independent creative artist, proprietor and small business owner—including owning and managing a state-of-the-art professional BetacamSP package with full lighting & grip, and a small west-Loop stage space during his years as a DP. In the mid '90's, Steven made the transition from DP/Director to his current incarnation as Director/Producer—and most recently in the early '00's to Executive Producer and main Principal of Three Nine Films.

Over the course of his career, Steven has built a solid reputation striving for and delivering creative excellence—while working with an impressive list of national & international clients, celebrities, and "movers and shakers" (as well as many talented colleagues) along the way. Always seeking to elevate his game, Steven continues to prove his value through consistent and solid execution project in, project out. And also, as a perennial student, continuing education and the attention to growth are always at the forefront of Steven's professional and personal philosophy.

Currently based in the Chicago area, he has previously lived in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. He has traveled and worked extensively around the United States and also overseas in the U.K. & Europe. Steven is available both for Three Nine Films projects and as an independent, commercial and short subject Director and Producer.
